Let's Talk About Your Dating Poop Anxiety (Because Everyone Has It)

Let's Talk About Your Dating Poop Anxiety (Because Everyone Has It)

Let me paint you a picture: You're on an amazing third date, vibing over tapas and sangria, when suddenly... your stomach makes that noise. You know the one. And just like that, your brain switches from "omg they're so cute" to "WHERE'S THE NEAREST BATHROOM?!" 😩

Y'all, we need to talk about poop anxiety in dating. Like, seriously.

The Dirty Little Secret Nobody's Talking About

So here's the tea - I used to be that person who would literally plan my entire date schedule around my bathroom schedule. I'd skip my morning coffee (the horror!), avoid my favorite spicy ramen spots, and basically turn into a totally different person just to avoid The Situation™️.

And guess what? According to a new MyFitnessPal survey, I'm sooo not alone. A whopping 32% of people admit to changing their eating habits to avoid pooping around their dates. THIRTY-TWO PERCENT! That's like, one-third of us living in fear of our own bodies doing what bodies do.

Even more wild? 60% of people (especially my Gen Z friends) are out here holding it in when they're with their partners. Like, actual partners. People they've probably seen in way more vulnerable situations than using the bathroom. 🤦‍♀️

Why Are We Like This Though?

Look, I get it. Nobody wants to be known as the "bathroom girl" or have their cute date night turn into a awkward bathroom situation. But can we talk about how messed up it is that we're literally changing our diets and potentially harming our health because of this weird societal taboo?

Here's what's really keeping me up at night (besides that late-night cold brew): Only 52% of us are even paying attention to our fiber intake. We're so busy worrying about not pooping that we're forgetting to take care of the stuff that makes us poop properly in the first place!

Real Talk: It's Time for a Mindset Shift

After years of dating anxiety and one particularly traumatic experience involving a curry date and no bathroom access (story for another time 😅), I finally had an epiphany: If someone can't handle the fact that I'm a human being with normal bodily functions, are they really the right person for me?

Here's what I propose:

  1. Normalize the convo - Maybe not first date material, but let's stop pretending we're magical beings who don't poop
  2. Prioritize your health - Track that fiber intake! Your gut will thank you
  3. Choose understanding partners - If they make you feel weird about basic bodily functions, that's a 🚩
  4. Have a sense of humor - Sometimes the best way to deal with awkward situations is to laugh about them

The Fiber Solution You're Not Thinking About

Fun fact: while we're all out here stressing about bathroom emergencies, most of us aren't even getting enough fiber to keep things running smoothly. The USDA says more than 90% of women and 97% of men aren't hitting their daily fiber goals.

Want some real solutions? Here's what actually works:

  • Pack your diet with fruits, veggies, and whole grains
  • Track your fiber intake (apps like MyFitnessPal make it super easy)
  • Stay hydrated (your poop will thank you)
  • Stop treating natural bodily functions like they're shameful

Let's Get Real

I want to hear from you - have you ever changed your eating habits because of dating anxiety? Have you found ways to deal with this that actually work? Drop a comment below or slide into my DMs - let's normalize this conversation! 💩

Remember: Everybody poops. Even that super hot person you're dating. Even Beyoncé (probably). The sooner we accept this, the happier (and healthier) we'll all be.

P.S. If you're reading this while hiding in the bathroom at your date's place... I see you, I support you, and yes, you should definitely turn on the faucet for sound coverage. No judgment here! 😘
